artist's statement

My art practice methodology started to evolve from taking stills from fascinating movies just from the point where the two images are limited. Transparency, metamorphosis, reflections and merging of images produce endless associations.

Art in general is about context, social relations, time, place and subjective experience. Images are like words and one uses them to construct meanings and conceptions according to one’s knowledge. We can express our subjective body of knowledge and our intuitive thoughts through playing bravely with words and images.

In my artworks I've often placed myself (or identities or roles representing my experience) in imagined outcomes. Depending on the topic I’m researching, the visual associations form out of my subconscious. They are also the result of how I've seen things and how I've understood them.

My software-manipulated reference photo collages are carefully composed and my paintings and drawings are reproduced versions of them. The final artwork cannot be controlled beforehand: something changes, something leaves off, and something stays the same. All depends on the materials, artist’s skills and mood at the moment.

In the moment of choices or problem solving I’ll usually go for the craziest option. Somehow intuitively and subconsciously I always end up knowing more about myself, and about the context I’m in when I am looking at my finished work.

I've recycled my imagery and placed it in new contexts and made different combinations. I can find the themes of relationships, identity, settings and common roles women usually consider to play. My imagery might also be about future events or dreams. I can’t explain some of my imagery combinations but I will find out what it’s all about when I’ll continue doing more work.
